MAPP began as Musical Action for Peoples Power, formed by activists who organized musical events (and the sound) for political rallies and community events. MAPP changed its name (from ‘Power’ to ‘Progress’) when it began to prioritise music education, and set up a school at the Joseph Stone Theatre, Athlone.
